STEREOTYPES KILL

Found Hats, Spray Paint

2018-present

STEREOTYPES KILL is an on-going project focussed on bringing awareness to the issue of police brutality in the United States and highlighting the Black Lives Matter Movement. This is done through the modification of used hats. There are currently 8 hats that inhabit the US at the moment. I cut and painted on the front of the hats as if each

had a bloody gunshot wound and spray painted the words “STEREOTYPES KILL” and “BLACK LIVES MATTER” onto the hat. This was done in connection to the amount of discrimination and racial profiling that people of color experience and how lives are lost because of it. These hats were placed around Arizona State University’s campus in high traffic areas for passersbys to see, read, or even take with them.
